The Forum of Slavic Cultures, with the support of the European Union, published the first Slovenian novel translated into Portuguese. The translation is part of the projects SLAWA and 100 Slavic Novels. After the premiere in Brazil the novel Mocking Desire (in Portuguese Desejo Debochado) was presented in Ljubljana, Unesco’s City of Literature.
The first Slovenian novel translated into Portuguese Brazilian was initially presented last autumn in Brazil which was followed by the Slovenian presentation organized by the Forum of Slavic Cultures in collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil to Slovenia and the City of Ljubljana. The event featuring the author Drago Jančar, lusitanist Blažka Müller Pograjc, reviewer of the translation, Her Excellency Katia Gilaberte, Ambassador of Brazil to Slovenia and Milena Šmit, former Ambassador of Slovenia to Brazil.
“With the first translation of a Slovenian novel into Portuguese the Forum of Slavic Cultures made the first step of the Slovenian language on the Portuguese speaking market. And thus provided excellent promotion of the Slovenian language, culture and history of the nation,” said Andreja Rihter, MA, the Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and added that the language was the greatest wealth we posses and offered infinite possibilities of communication, cooperation and getting to know each other.
All of the above is among others being realized within the project SLAWA – Slavic Authors to the World, which is part of the collection 100 Slavic Novels. The novels in it are being published for ten years in a row. So far 50 novels in five countries have been brought out.
