The Forum of Slavic Cultures, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Slovenia and the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation unveiled a bronze bust of the great Russian poet, novelist and playwright Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin in Ljubljana’s Northern Park.
The bust of the Russian literary giant was created by the sculptor Alexey Leonov and according to H.E. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Slovenia Mr Doku Zavgayev its unveiling is the fruit of good relationship between Slovenia and Russia. He also noted that Pushkin had been living in the hearts of many Slovenians for several generations. On this occasion, Ms Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, reminded us that Pushkin was Prešeren’s contemporary and added that it would be nice if strong bilateral ties between the two countries resulted also in reciting poems in the Slovenian language at a monument to our greatest poet in Russia.
The unveiling of the bust to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin is part of the project Great Teachers of Mankind of the Russian fund Dialogue of Cultures – United World, whose aim is to strengthen ties between nations through promotion of the work of great scientists, artists and culture workers, with an emphasis on spiritual and moral ideals that are independent of nationality.
