The International Foundation Forum of Slavic Culture with the headquarters in Ljubljana received the Gourmand World Award for the first monograph on Slavic cuisines At the Table with the Slavs. The award ceremony was held in Yantai in China.
“The importance of the Gourmand Award in the culinary world can be compared to Oscars in the world of film. That is why we are extremely proud at the award “Best in the World – Gourmand World Cookbook Awards” which was last weekend (on 29 May) in China accorded to the best culinary books,” was a joyous comment by Andreja Rihter, MA, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, upon receiving the information that the first world monograph on Slavic cuisines At the Table with the Slavs was accorded this prestigious award. The Forum of Slavic Cultures published the book, which had more than 200 competitors for the prestigious award, in the English language last year. Besides At the Table with the Slavs a book form Croatia and a book from the United Kingdom were shortlisted the category for the Best Eastern European Culinary Book.
Author of the book Prof Janez Bogataj has included three recipes per country (altogether 39) and added various gastronomic and culinary characteristics of every country as well as the list of Slavic culinary events month by month at the end of the book. The foreword was written by famous Edouard Cointreau, President and founder of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, photos were contributed by Tomo Jeseničnik and the book was designed by Edi Berk. It is expected that by the end of the year the book will be published also in the Slovenian language.
