On behalf of the International Foundation Forum of Slavic Cultures Ms. Andreja Rihter signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg. In the Russian capital of culture they also adopted a two-year action plan which focuses in particular on intercultural exchange between artists and institutions.

In the framework of the 5th International Congress “St. Petersburg and the Slavic World” Ms. Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation. “The memorandum is the culmination of our successful cooperation in the last few years and offers opportunities for further development,” said Governor Poltavchenko in his speech. Ms. Rihter stressed the importance of the signed memorandum. Together with the action plan it will facilitate the exchange of exhibitions, concerts and performances by Slovenian and Russian cultural institutions, and promote the sharing of knowledge and skills that their experts possess. By signing the memorandum the FSC continues to pursue its mission to innervate the creativity of Slavic cultures.

The cooperation between the FSC and St. Petersburg started five years ago, at the first St. Petersburg and the Slavic World congress. This year, the focus of the congress is on green technologies. It has attracted participants from all Slavic countries. Visitors from Slovenia include Mr. Janez Fajfar, mayor of Bled, Miran Gajšek as the representative of the Municipality of Ljubljana and Igor Kos, who is there on behalf of the Municipality of Maribor.

The Forum of Slavic Cultures took the exhibition 100 Slavic Novels to Vienna. The opening ceremony was led by Her Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia Ksenija Škrilec and His Excellency Ambassador of the Russian Federation Dmitry Lyubinskiy, and featured guest appearances by authors Suzana Tratnik and Marko Sosič.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the 100 Slavic Novels series the International Foundation Forum of Slavic Cultures prepared an exhibition with the same title. Having already been presented, in words and pictures, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Ljubljana and Radlje ob Dravi, the exhibition featuring 108 best and most representative contemporary Slavic novelists has now moved to Vienna. The exhibition was opened in the Austrian capital at the Russian Culture Institute in collaboration with the institute and SKICA – Slovenian Culture and Information Centre, by Her Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia Ksenija Škrilec and His Excellency Ambassador of the Russian Federation Dmitry Lyubinskiy.

“For the eleventh consecutive year the FSC’s 100 Slavic Novels series has been bringing stories by the most ground-breaking Slavic novelists from a Slavic country to the bookshelves in other Slavic countries. Through live readings and presentations of authors and translators we have made our words heard, not just read. This is especially important when novels are presented across the Slavic borders, where Slavic languages and authors are poorly known or even completely unknown,” stressed Ms Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and introduced two Slovenian authors, Suzana Tratnik and Marko Sosič, who on this occasion read excerpts from selected novels from the series.

The 100 Slavic Novels series has so far published more than 60 novels in nine Slavic languages. The exhibition is part of the international collaborative project co-financed by the Slovenian Book Agency.
